Shiny new things
Sep. 1st, 2005 02:15 pmWell, I've gotten some stuff accomplished in the past couple of days, and I've gotten some stuff, period.
In work-related matters, I've been puzzling out the XML stuff more easily than I thought (although it's still very difficult at times) and signed up for the company health plan (which is an HMO, but an entry-level employee like me is lucky to get anything).
In other matters, I have finished my latest knitting project (a little drawstring bag), I've started making a hat for one of my friends, and I have revised part of my fanfic. I also got a Pennsylvania driver's license, and the photo doesn't look half bad! I do, however, regret that when I registered to vote at the DMV (actually in this state it's DOT) I registered as a Democrat in a sort of knee-jerk way instead of choosing "unaffiliated" or "other," which I think is closer to the truth.
Since my dad recently switched the family cellphone plan, I also got a new Sony Ericsson cellphone that makes my old phone seem like something out of the Stone Age (or at least the Dark Ages). I am somewhat ashamed of myself because I like the Cingular games version of Blockbreaker, that old classic, which they have turned into a game where you can earn money, get stuff and unlock easter eggs. I can't resist games like that. I'm feeling a compulsion to buy the full version, as well as a new ringtone. In my defense, the games are cheap and none of the ringtones currently on my phone are much to my liking. But still, I shouldn't be drooling over it so much.
Tomorrow I get to go home and visit Benjamin. Mom and Dad will be moving Daniel into college so I probably won't see them, but in case I do, I'm bracing myself for Mom's complaints about my weight and/or my mild acne (the latter of which kind of bothers me). But I'll keep in mind that I'm working, living on my own and not doing such a bad job of it, so I'm obviously not the helpless lackwit she seems to think I am. So there.
