Hooray for doing something about it!

I haven't been stupid or insensitive enough to criticize the victims of the hurricaine for not getting themselves out of the way - and neither have my friends, as far as I know. But I have been guilty of blaming particular parties for how they (mis)handled the situation, while I myself did nothing. The truth is, it's really not possible to be well-prepared for a disaster like this, there are people who need help, and trying to find someone to blame is useless.

So I made a donation to the American Red Cross relief effort. (http://s1.amazon.com/paypage/PELYGQVJ8Q7IB/104-2257667-3072708) I can't give that much, but I know my money will help buy some food or medical supplies or fuel for rescue vehicles or something. If you do what you can, it's enough.

I ask all of you who are reading this to do what you can. If you can't go down there and physically contribute to the relief effort - and I know many of you can't - support it some other way. Make a donation to the Red Cross or the relief agency of your choice. Even if you're a starving student and can only give a little, it will help. They might need blood supplies for people who were injured, too, so give blood if you can.

Once you help, you're entitled to whine all you want.
