I went to Mishkan Shalom this morning.  Took the R100 (cheaper than the R5, but a longer walk to get to), then the subway, then a bus.  I found out later that I would have done better to take a different bus from the 69th street station.  The directions I had recieved were in error.

I got good notes from watching the service, though I didn't get to talk to the rabbi.  Some people were nice enough to drive me back, for which I am very grateful.

Mostly I wasted time today.  I have to finish my assigned readings in Montaigne's Essays, and I hope to get more of my short story done.

The more I read of Montaigne, the more I like him.  He was a very smart man.  I think I've developed something of a crush on him, which is a bit of a problem...

Mostly I wasted time today, but I did a few worthwhile things.  First, I got some reading for class done (ahead of time, since I want to be able to go to West House this week to work on my thesis proposal), and I also got some of my short story done.

I also took a friend of mine out for sushi.  She was burned out from working on a chem lab assignment - it wasn't done, but she needed a break anyway.  The sushi was good, though the miso soup left something to be desired, and it was nice to have dinner with a friend.  I feel especially warm and fuzzy because she said she probably wouldn't have eaten if I hadn't invited her out for dinner.  So I did a good deed.

And on a totally unrelated note, Sandman fans should check out these costumes!

This has been my most productive day in weeks - or at least that's what it feels like.

I wrote a lot of the methodology section of my thesis proposal (this section is due on Monday), I had a very useful interview in Philly (again thesis-related), and I managed to raise $28.20 for the literary magazine by going around my dorm and soliciting 50-cent donations.  Going around the dorm has made me ashamed of how few decorations I have on my walls and outside my door.  One of the people who lives next door to me has wallpapered her room with anime pictures.  I'm not going that far, but really, things like that make my walls seem more than a little bare...

Tomorrow I will be busy working on a paper, and I have a book to read for Wednesday, and I have to finish the methodology write-up.  And I have to finish my short story about the bottles.  I'm getting into an industrious frame of mind (or so I tell myself).

Speaking of short stories, this person has some good Firefly fanfiction for Wash/Zoe and Simon/Kaylee.
