Dad just contacted me on AIM. Apparently Benjamin (my 12-year-old brother) just got glasses - Harry Potter glasses. He's nearsighted. Imagine that...

I had to get glasses when I was about half the age he is now. I wonder if he's as nearsighted as I am, but I doubt it. We can have a contest when I get back home!

I applied for a lot of summer internships early in the year, but I didn't get into any of them. Recently I started looking for places in D.C., Philadelphia or New York that were still taking applications. I found the Stephen Decatur Museum, a historic house that was occupied by many prominent persons during the 19th and early 20th centuries. It's just the kind of thing I like. )

I went to the mailbox and found that the campus cafe sent me a cookie for my birthday, which is 3 days from now. I didn't know they did stuff like that, but then again, I wasn't on campus this time last year or the year before that. My grandparents' birthday gift also arrived - they usually send checks because they don't know what to get me, but that's okay, now I can get 1337 stuff. The check was enclosed in a Tintin card.

That got me thinking... )

I updated my webpage and decided to create a new country in NationStates , which I will use from now on. The Democratic Republic of Etheriam turned out better than The Most Serene Republic of Dellaren at the start: it has Very Good civil rights, a Strong economy and Superb political freedoms. The U.N. classifies it as a New York Times democracy. There's a problem with crime, but when the right issue comes up that should be fairly simple to fix without doing something detrimental to the ratings.

I also created my own region, The Etherian Alliance. I decided to password-protect it, which means it will be more difficult to get members but I can keep out any undesirables. If you play NationStates or are interested enough to create a country there, I invite you to check out my region - these are the rules for entry and good conduct.

If you're sick of me babbling about my fanfic, don't read this message. You have been warned.

I'm feeling particularly happy because, as I was writing this particular scene of the story, something that was originally intended to be no more than a spit take turned into a character-building moment and the springboard for a humorous exchange. I love when that happens.

Turns out [livejournal.com profile] silverknight16 isn't that interested in Ruse after all. She wasn't hooked from the first issue, which I guess means she will never be interested in it. She was very apologetic and I will eventually recover, but that means she won't draw any fanart...*sniff*
