I just got back from Thanksgiving at home. My grandparents were visiting, which is always nice, and the food was good. I helped by cooking a corn casserole, which came out very well this time (I cooked one before some time ago and it turned out a bit dry). Mom and I had some nasty altercations (which is par for the course), and I'm not sure whether to be amused, despaired or distressed by our little psychodrama. But she's not as bad as some mothers I know of, so I guess we're okay. Benjamin and I actually got along quite well. Daniel barely spoke to any of us and spent a lot of time out with his friends. That usually only upsets Mom, but this time even I came to resent it. He takes too much pride in hating his family, that boy does.

I have come back with newly styled and highlighted hair, some new sweaters, a cookie recepie that I intend to make for various people this holiday season, comfy flannel sheets, and some books. I also got some game CDs that Benjamin doesn't want anymore - old stuff that I've always liked, but first I have to clear out some space in my hard drive. Grandma and Grandpa gave us Hanukah gifts early this year, in the form of checks, so I will be able to buy myself an external hard drive to keep stuff on. Now I just have to go to that little hole-in-the-wall computer parts store I know of. Speaking of computer-related matters, Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones is coming out in a few days. But I probably won't get it until after the holiday shopping rush is over and the price is a bit marked down. I don't need it now now now or anything.

Much thanks to [livejournal.com profile] pacdude for checking up on Roo while I was away. I missed her and she evidently missed me too, because when I came home she started purring a lot and went to great lengths to get my attention when I was doing other stuff. Roo also got the gizzard and heart of our Thanksgiving turkey, compliments of Dad, who had me take them home along with some turkey soup that we made. Roo liked the heart, but the gizzard is slow going for her.

I've just begun reading yet another book that I read years ago (see my last entry). This one is Cold Comfort Farm, by Stella Gibbons. I first read it...I don't know when, but I was rather young and it went over my head. A few years ago I saw the movie, which was hilarious, and I happened to come across the book at home. So I started reading it again, and I really enjoy it. It's sort of a twentieth-century Northanger Abbey, with a savvier heroine. If I make remarks such as "There's always been Starkadders at Cold Comfort Farm" or "something narsty in the woodshed" in a cracked, haggish voice, then you'll know where they come from.
