Birfday!

I had lots of fun on my birthday! Before [livejournal.com profile] scifantasy drove here to pick me up (he went home, but came back for my party), I got some fanfic work done (always good) and my friend Martine gave me a cute little fluffy fan. My friend Rachel gave me an alternate historical fiction novel called 1632, which she liked a great deal. I've only read the first three chapters so far, but I like it.

[livejournal.com profile] scifantasy and I bought some snacks at the grocery store for the party before driving up to [livejournal.com profile] drakonous's place. There I perfected my character sheet for Simon (turns out I hadn't spent all my background points). I also figured out what merits and flaws he would have, as well as what other background ratings he would have, if the character really reflected him. I thought of being really obsessive and making that sheet to put up on LJ, but I decided not to in the end.

I got neat presents at the party, too. [livejournal.com profile] drakonous and [livejournal.com profile] tempus_aeterna gave me these neat elephant bookends. [livejournal.com profile] scifantasy gave me an Evenstar pendant, which I am going to wear for a while instead of my usual book locket. Speaking of presents, I have to try and find one for my friend Diana, whose birthday is four days after mine...but I have to ask her what she wants first.

Anyway, I also met [livejournal.com profile] arcessita's mother and grandmother. [livejournal.com profile] arcessita couldn't stay for the game, but it was nice of her to come for a while, and her mom and grandma wished me happy birthday as well (always good to get lots of happy birthdays).

We ate the snacks I had brought with me, ordered out for real dinner food, and also had some drinks. I tried, for the first and probably last time, a certain drink that I could only take about a drop of at once - the stuff would go fwoom in my mouth like a little fireball. It was an interesting sensation, at first, but I'm not one for really strong drinks, and [livejournal.com profile] tempus_aeterna had to finish it. Still, it was interesting to try. Later on I drank my first-ever bottle of beer. It was Victory Golden Monkey ale (something like that, I'll know it when I see it), and it was pretty good. I think I got a bit buzzed from it, although that may have been from the other drink I had earlier, which was very strong. I need to get used to this stuff.

The actual one-shot Mage game, which I have been raving about, was very fun. [livejournal.com profile] drakonous set it in a house in New England in the 1890s where some representatives from the Electrodyne Engineers (some of whom were calling themselves the Sons of Ether at that time) had come to talk to the Tradition mages about leaving the Technocracy and joining them. My character was one of the representatives - not a diplomat, naturally, but someone who would see whether the mages were worthwhile, and to evaluate our chances. Of course, he came in kind of handy when the Etheric ambassador and one of the Mages turned up dead - although he did not solve the mystery by himself, it involved a lot of help from the other mages present and a certain vampire. That's all right, everyone has to get their bit in these games. I'm afraid I didn't play Simon to character, though. I can write him well, but I can't ad-lib him. I did manage to get a few good jabs in, though, particularly on [livejournal.com profile] scifantasy's character, the Hermetic diplomat. Generally I behaved like I hated him, because Simon definitely would have. But we had a grudging respect for each other by the end.

We managed to finish up the game around 2 AM. [livejournal.com profile] scifantasy took me back to my dorm - he spent the night over, and we both woke up too early. He left about half an hour ago, as of this writing. I hope we can see each other over the summer. We'll have to plan something.

As for what I'm doing this summer, I'm still visiting Decatur House, but just in case I'm keeping other options open. A friend of my grandparents who works at Children's Television Workshop has managed to find a couple of people who are interested in the prospect of having me as an intern, so I sent them both my resume. Not sure I'll get the job, but it's worth a try - though if it comes down to a choice between the two, I don't know which one to pick.

I have to start packing now, since Dad will be here this afternoon to take my stuff home. I've put my fanfic on my thumb drive, and I'll put Semagic on it too so I can update my journal from one of the school computers (if the lab is open, which it may not be). I'm wondering whether I should leave after graduation tomorrow, or on Monday morning. Now I'm thinking I should do it tomorrow.

Well, when I next come back here, I'm going to be a senior. I can hardly believe it, and it makes me kind of nervous. I'm also sad that this year is over, beacuse it was indeed a very good year. When I get home I'll have a week free before I visit Decatur House, so I will have to read some books, work more on my fic, and cook dinner a couple of times to help out. Mom and Dad are going off on a wedding anniversary trip. I should probably get a card for them. When they get back, I suppose, we'll shop for my laptop.

Is this the longest entry I've ever done? I guess so, since I didn't have the opportunity to update every three hours in the usual way...

Happy birthday! Glad to hear the party, etc. was fun, and I'm sincerely sorry I missed it. Guess I'll have to get you a belated birthday present before we meet again.
