Can anyone recommend a good digital camera? I think I'd actually take pictures if I didn't have to fool around with actual film. I don't have a camera anyway so I might as well get one I'll actually use.

I'm looking for something that will store a lot of pictures and has a storage medium that can be easily plugged into a USB port. If it's cheap but not a total piece of crap, that's a bonus too.

Any suggestions?

I've had a lot of good luck with the Nikon Coolpix series. I see a Coolpix 4600 for $190 on Amazon right now, which isn't bad at all. It's a 4-megapixel camera, good enough for at least up to 4x6 prints (if that's the intent) and much more than adequate for Internet posting. The Coolpix series have the same basic camera body and lens, so comments about my camera should carry over. The lens is pretty good - it's got a 3x optical zoom on it, and Nikon's one of the better-known brands in digital camera-dom. Auto-focus works pretty well as well. My only complaints are that it's a bit slow between shots, especially when you use the flash, and that it's not all that great at night photography. Other than that, it's a great basic little camera that should suit your needs well. Any other questions, lemme know :-)

Thanks. Do you know if I can get that from a Radio Shack or a Target? Because I'd like to be able to pick it up soon.

Also, while I have your attention, what's a good brand of earphones? I know you're particularly attached to the ones you have. I'm not doing so well with the iPod earbuds.

Literally attached, actually. *grin*

Hahahaah, very funny, [livejournal.com profile] scifantasy =P

I have two pairs of headphones at the moment - one for at-work/running/anywhere I need to hear things around me besides my music, and one for when I want the world to go away.

My selection for the former category is the Koss KSC-75, available at some Circuit City stores for $20. Not the gold standard in sound quality, but for $20 it's damn good. And the slightly overboosted bass makes it a fun pair of 'phones. =)

My other pair is the AKG K271 Studio, check out 8th Street Music at 10th and Arch. (Yes, I know, the store is mis-named.) Blocks out 20+ dB of sound, in addition to being incredibly good for classical and jazz music. They're a bit expensive though, at about $150 - $180 depending on the store. But you know, speaker rigs that sound that good cost 10-15x as much...

Oh, and I forgot to mention - avoid Koss headphones other than the KSC-75, or the PortaPro if you're looking for a pair with an actual headband. Other good choices are the AKG K26P for $40, or the Sennheiser HD-201 (as long as you're not planning on taking them outside) for less than $30.
