Houston, we have internet

After a month and a half of beating around the bush with Verizon, we finally have our own internet access! My entries below are from my first week or so here, before I decided that writing LJ entries without being able to update them was just too damn depressing because it reminded me that I had no 'net access. Most of the interesting stuff I didn't cover has been chronicled by
colorwhirl.
We've gotten the apartment all set up - although we need some pictures to hang around - and I'm getting into the routine of Life after College. I'm learning to knit (from
colorwhirl, of course), I have learned regular expressions at work, and at some point in the near future I hope to learn how to cook.
My grandparents visited last weekend and so did my friend Marjorie, who has been teaching English in Shanghai since she graduated a year before I did. I also went to a party hosted by one of my friends at work.
colorwhirl is scheming to set me up on a date with a friend of hers, whom I haven't met yet. Mostly, things are going well.
Except that my bike got stolen today. I can live without it, but it's really annoying and makes me feel stupid. Usually I leave it in the basement of the building. The one time I chain it up outside, it gets stolen. In broad daylight, in a generally safe neighborhood. I've filed a police report, but I don't know if I'll ever get it back. And I dread telling my dad, who said I shouldn't leave it outside.
Well, having my wallet or my laptop stolen would have been a lot worse. But this really gets me down.
