My first day at work wasn't bad. There's a lot of stuff I don't know yet, but everyone is very helpful and the boss doesn't mind explaining things to me. I'm also not the only new hire in the place - there are two others who just started there. I think one of the employees is a Haverford alum, as she has a Haverford water bottle. I haven't talked to her yet. I do feel a bit dumb, though, becuase I was dressed in business casual when everyone including the boss was wearing just plain casual. But dressing well for the first week or so can't hurt.

I have finished constructing the second bookshelf and painstakingly organized all my books according to an idiosyncratic system based on titles - by title alone if it's a single book, and by series title if it's, well a series. Except with the Mary Russel books, which I have grouped with the Sherlock Holmes books because the Mary Russel stories are damn good Sherlock Holmes fanfics, and Laurie R. King has earned the right to have her books next to Doyle's on my shelf, thank you very much. With the bookshelves constructed and the books organized, I have managed to clear a lot of space in the common area.

As for getting two sets of bookshelves...it seems I was going by how many books I wish I had, not how many I actually have. Most of my books[1] fit on one set of shelves with space to spare. The only exceptions were the really tall books (Asterix, Eloise, Tintin and such) that I put on top of my folding shelf set from home instead.

Oh, I fixed that sticking drawer in the dresser, too. It's still not rolling smoothly, but at least it comes out or goes in the way I want it to, which is enough for me. I still haven't put most of my clothes away. I guess I'll get to that, and putting away all the other stuff, tomorrow. For now I seriously need a break.

A utilities update: Dad called and said that Peco sent a notice to me (at my parents' address) saying that they required a copy of a valid state-issued ID (no prob) and a notarized (WTF!?!) copy of my lease. I'll have to talk to my landlord about the latter. Maybe I should get two copies and save one for my files. I have to call Peco tomorrow to tell them that I'll send the required paperwork as soon as possible. The notice didn't say how long it would be before they turned my electricity off, although I think they may do that at the end of the month, in which case I have plenty of time.
So far this living on my own thing hasn't been so bad, but then again it's only my first day. What challenges and possible catastrophes lie ahead for the intrepid me? Tune in next time!

[1] I did not bring all my books from home, just the ones I really like.
