The past few days have had their ups and downs, partly because of the living arrangements (my whole immediate family plus my grandparents are here and I am sleeping on an Aero bed in the living room), and partly because my granny, in her typical way, cannot decide whether to be an indulgent grandmother or a complete bitch, and alternates between them.
Today Dad, Benji and I went to Busch Gardens while Mom and Granny went shopping for tiles for the kitchen at home, taking Daniel in tow. It was pretty good, although Benjamin took command of everything (as is his wont) and was occasionally a jerk. One of the highlights of the day was when a bird flying overhead shat in his hair. It was priceless. Other fun things were in the African-themed menageries. They have gorillas and chimps and elephants and hyenas and such. I liked the beautiful blue fish in the hippo tank. There were also lots of neat birds.
I finished the first two parts of the historical section of my thesis - Reform and Conservative. Now I just need to write the Re-constructionist bit. I have an advantage in that Mordechai Kaplan's granddaughter is a member of my congregation, Adat Shalom, so I can interview her.
Tomorrow is our last full day here before we go home. Let's pray I can stay sane until then.
