Macs make sexier TV models?
Jan. 16th, 2007 07:50 amNow that I've got a Mac of my own, I'm starting to notice them elsewhere - specifically in advertisements. I've been awake for only two hours today and I've already seen three MacBooks, two in ads on the television at my gym and one on a sidebar ad accompanying one of the webcomics I read. I've also heard, by the way, that in 24 the good guys use Macs and the bad guys use PCs (I have not seen this for myself because I don't watch 24).
I think this is worthy of comment because, as we are all aware, PCs actually have a much bigger market share than Macs. And yet, when you watch TV and you see a laptop computer, it seems like Macs are disproportionately represented (sorry if that sentence sounds awkward, it's early and I'm still tired from 40 minutes on the elliptical machine). I wonder why that is - because they're sexier, maybe? Or because they have "underdog" appeal? Or is Apple paying all the people who make ads to put Macs in wherever a laptop is called for, thus creating a sort of ad-within-an-ad? It's an interesting question to ponder.
