I was expecting my new MacBook to arrive on Wednesday, but FedEx got it here this morning. It's pretty and shiny and going through the initial setup just fine (right now it's asking me if I want to connect to my office's wireless network, but I have to check with my boss about that). I'll probably be spending my time after work transferring all my stuff from the other laptop and setting it up.

By the way, the new arrival is named Tomato, and it will soon have a Windows alter ego that will be named Potato. If all goes well.

Tomato has been partitioned and I'm currently installing Windows XP in the properly formatted part of the disk. I went around displaying Tomato with the WinXP install screen to various people in the office. My supervisor and one of my co-workers are dedicated Mac users: my co-worker feigned horror and made a cross sign at the computer, while my supervisor asked if I was "ruining the nice Mac."

For the time being, I can't run Windows in the MacOS, since I don't have Parallels. I'm going to wait until Parallels allows DirectX capability before I buy it. Until then I'll just be using Boot Camp.

I still need to put the stuff from my old laptop on Tomato (horrors, I'm already in the habit of calling it by a pet name). Fortunately I have a hard drive enclosure for laptop disks. Once I'm out of work, it shouldn't take more than a couple of hours for me to get everything the way I like it.
