Good news and bad news
Dec. 9th, 2005 09:11 pmWell, this evening has been fun. I went to an alumnae event at a bar near Rittenhouse Square and got to see a friend of mine for the first time since I graduated. She's also going to organize other events and took my suggestions for them. The bar also had great Cosmos. Or I think they were great, I've never tried one before but it tasted pretty good to me. I also stopped in quickly at Philcon to pick up my registration badge. I was too late to get to any of the opening events and I didn't manage to find
hughcasey, but it was on the way home and I'm still glad I went.
Bad things for today: my Bryn Mawr class ring seems to have gone missing. This is upsetting, because of course it has great sentimental value. and it's 18-carat gold. Not cheap, people. But I think it's either somewhere in the apartment or somewhere at work, so it's likely to turn up soon. I get very upset when I lose things, though, especially something like this. The other thing is more of a trifle: when I was going home this evening I decided to take the subway (I had walked all the way to the bar and didn't want to walk back). I wanted to get an uneven number of tokens, and as any Philly resident knows, you can get 7 tokens for 9.10. I didn't have that much in singles, nor did I have a 10-dollar bill, so I put in 20 dollars, thinking that 7 was the maximum you could get. Nope. It wanted to give me 15 tokens, and wouldn't give me my money back. So I had to get the tokens. Luckily a couple of women who noticed my problem bought two of my tokens off me (for the regular price, I wasn't scalping them or anything), so I recouped some of the expense. But not much.
And, more good news - it doesn't seem to be as cold tonight as it has been for the last week or so. That's good, because the electric blanket I ordered isn't here yet, and since I ordered it to my work address I can't get it until Monday. Oh, and tomorrow and Sunday are Philcon Phun! Yay!
