I really need to learn to write down public transportation directions better and not assume that I'll remember them or that everything will work out. [livejournal.com profile] tempus_aeterna invited me to join her at a concert performance of Beethoven's 9th on Thursday, and I only heard the latter half of it because I had trouble getting there with SEPTA. Due solely to my own ineptitude. I have learned my lesson.

Today was better. Since [livejournal.com profile] colorwhirl is away I must entertain myself, which is probably a good thing because it encourages me to get out of the house. I figured out how to put the saddlebags Dad gave me on the rear rack of my bike. Then I figured out how to ride the bike, which has handlebars of a shape I'm unused to (and they aren't adjustible), figured out that I hadn't adjusted the seat correctly the first time (luckily, I had brought an adjustible wrench with me) and then figured out the correct way to attach the saddlebags.

These discoveries all took place while I was out and about shopping. I finally went to the Italian Market (which is not completely Italian: a number of the shops there are owned by Asians and African Americans) and got myself some stuff - sweet potatoes, apples, and a mushroom quiche. I also found that I can get good fish cheap there. Maybe I'll do that some time this week - go into work early so I can get my eight hours in by 4 PM, then head up to the market for fish. It actually starts just a few blocks up Christian Street, which is quite nifty.

I also went in the opposite direction, to Columbus Avenue, so I could get new water filters for my Brita pitcher. I also got an ink cartridge for my printer (the wrong kind of cartridge, but fortunately I discovered that before I opened the box) and Age of Mythology at Staples. The latter was actually ten dollars less at Target, but I didn't know that at the time. At Wal-Mart, where I went searching for water filters before I went to Target, I saw some monks shopping around. I kid you not. They were Buddhist monks with saffron robes and all. I didn't ask what they were doing there.

I also found a DVD of Fight Club at Target, so I bought it. I'm going to watch it while I do some knitting.

Geez, I'm sore from the bicycle riding. I'll probably hurt like hell tomorrow.
