Fancy that!
Oct. 25th, 2004 06:35 pmI learned something interesting and helpful today.
My dean asked me in for a meeting because she hadn't seen me in a while and just wanted to check that I was taking care of all my requirements and generally doing okay. She told me that, since I have extra credits from an AP course I took in high school, I can take only three (instead of four) courses in the spring semester and still graduate! That way I'll be able to do my thesis, look for a job and keep up with my other academic work without busting my butt until I go insane. Though I have in the past considered the fact that I could technically do this, I thought it would be lazy or a blot on my academic record when I applied to graduate school or jobs. Not so.
Apparently a lot of seniors here do the three-course thing, if they can manage it, and it's perfectly acceptable to graduate schools as long as you keep a good GPA in that last semester. In fact, it's more the rule than the exception. I told one of my friends about this and she says she's taking only three courses herself, courtesy of extra credits transferred from high school. I'm going to talk to some of my friends who've graduated and see what they know about this. Then I'll suggest it to my parents.
This is a major relief for me, since I'm in a bit of a crunch right now. It doesn't have to be so crazy next semester! Yay!
