Baby Chipmunk and Other Stuff
Sep. 24th, 2004 10:53 pmGood news - I finished reading and taking notes on the book of Exodus. There's also bad news, for those who don't already know it - Moses' God outright admitted that He was jealous and would do all sorts of horrible things to the children of Israel if they disobeyed him. Merciful he ain't. Or wasn't.
Today I saw a baby chipmunk, about four inches long. It was in this clearing by the side of one of the paths, near some bushes. Its mother was trying to get it to come with her and dash under cover. She'd run over, push the baby in the direction she wanted, and then run that way. The baby would sometimes follow her for a bit, but mostly it would wander around or chase its tail. It didn't seem intimidated by the three humans (myself and two others) who were watching it. The chipmunk's mother finally got it to follow her, but it sort of crawled along at a leisurely pace instead of making a mad rodent dash. It was cute, and very funny, but I don't think a chipmunk that stupid is going to survive long, especially since we have some red-tailed hawks hanging around campus. Maybe it was just stupid the way human toddlers are stupid.
Although I got some work done, I also downloaded and played Lemmings (damn you
silmaril, for reminding me of that game!). Now I can actually do the tricky levels, which I couldn't last time I played. Of course, that was years ago. I see they have Civilization on that site. I'd better not download it, because I really need to work.
The local theatre does midnight showings of classic movies on Fridays and Saturdays, and students get a discount. I'm going tonight to see Fight Club, which I haven't seen before. I'll also check the Sunday times for Sky Captain.
I love my Comp Lit class. I've started reading Don Quixote. The translation is very good, and it's annotated, so I can get all the jokes. I've also underlined some things and written stuff in the margin with a pencil, something I don't normally do with books. I figured this would be a good time to start, since Don Quixote is such a big book and I'll have trouble finding stuff in it when I write a paper if I don't mark things. Once I got over my "this is sacrilege" problem, I found it pretty easy to underline. Besides, I'm planning to keep the book.
We're only reading sections of it. I plan to read the whole thing someday. I also have to read Mary Poppins and Peter Pan and Lolita and anything by Neil Gaiman that I haven't read yet...
Wait, I should concentrate on Don Quixote for now. It's a fun book to concentrate on.
I make no apologies for the mood icon.
