Ivanova is God
Jun. 4th, 2004 02:21 pmI haven't updated these past few days for two reasons: first, Dad sent the family computer - that is, our internet-capable computer - to a techie friend of his who can get the virus/spyware/whatever off it. The other reason is that I have spent most of my free time at home finishing up the third season of Babylon 5. I did work on my fanfic a bit, but it was really revision work. Still, it was a good idea, because my changes fixed up something that I thought was a little weak.
Things at Decatur House have been going well. On Wednesday Julia and I got reader cards for the Library of Congress, which make us "researchers" so we can skip past the line at the entrance - though we still have to go through security and check our belongings in the cloak room if we want to read the books. The main reading room in the Jefferson building, which I first entered yesterday, is a huge and breathtaking place with a high, domed ceiling, lots of statues and countless reading desks. But the place is frustrating: the stacks are closed, so if you want a book you have to fill out a little slip and give it to the librarians, who get the book for you. It can take up to an hour if the book is in Jefferson Building, and longer if it's in Adams Building. Fortunately I found out that you can order books overnight and have them waiting for you the next day. I did that with an Edward Livingston biography that I read earlier today. Now I have pretty much all the information I need for that exhibit. Once I've made an outline, I can start looking for appropriate pictures, artifacts and documents for the exhibit. Sarah and I are going to start on that next week. After that I can start working on the next person on my list.
This weekend I plan to watch lots of Babylon 5, naturally. I still have two more seasons to go through. On a related note, I once saw an LJ icon with a picture of Ivanova bearing the words "Ivanova is God" on the bottom. I wonder if I can find it and add it to my set of LJ icons. If I want more I'll have to get a paid account. :)
