Yay! I got it!
May. 25th, 2004 05:41 pmWell, I got that internship at Decatur House. Now Mom's not going to be freaked out about me having nothing to do for the summer - and I've got an activity I'll enjoy. Basically I will be doing research for an exhibit they're putting up in the fall. I'll have to look in libraries, other museums, stuff like that...it's a giant research project. Weird person that I am, that sort of thing actually appeals to me. There are two other interns working on the project, but I haven't met them yet. I start work next week. It's a good place, because it's close to Dad's office so we can commute together. But I need to get some more professional-style clothes and nice sandals. The high heels Mom got me for the interview were [expletive deleted] uncomfortable, and awkward since I had to walk up and down narrow staircases there.
This afternoon I stopped at Circuit City to check out some laptops. There's this particular Toshiba that looks nice - I found it in another store for a lower price, though, and I want to check online in case I can get a better deal that way. Dad said it would be a good thing to have for my internship work, and, of course, I agreed.
I missed my friend Diana's birthday, but I think I managed to make it up to her. Last night we talked on the phone. I told her I got an Evenstar pendant from
scifantasy. She said "I hate you! I want an Evenstar pendant!" So I ordered one for her from the same place where
scifantasy got mine. She's been my best friend since 6th grade, and even though she has to put up with a lot of you-know-what in her life (for reasons which it is not my place to explain), she's still one of the nicest people I know. She deserves a good cheering up.
On the fanfic side of things, I got a little more of that done. I'm definitely going to do a final revision before posting it on Fanfiction.net, but I'll be showing it to some friends before then for comments. My friend Rachel in particular is eagerly awaiting an update, and she has already proven her worth as a sounding board and source of ideas. Since I got my friend Valerie to read Ruse too, I'll definitely be consulting her, since she knows more about the 19th century than I do and she's a darn good fanfic writer herself.
Speaking of which, I found this pic by a fellow Ruse fan. Squee!
Now I have some work to do - but then I'll get back to my fic.
