New Theme!

LJ has preset cityscape themes, but not for Philly! Oh well, I guess I'll use this NYC theme while I'm in New York visiting my grandparents, and later I'll change to something else.

I got my dad and my brother to have lunch at my favorite Chinese restaurant when they stopped in Philly to pick me up. In certain Jewish families, eating Chinese food on Christmas is a tradition. After lunch, we drove for about two and a half hours to reach my grandparents' house in Larchmont, NY. My brother's nanny Gleisse was with us (she's planning to visit New York for a couple of days), so we pointed out all the landmarks along the way - not just the stuff in Manhattan, but the familiar places in New Rochelle where we used to live.

Don't tell Grandma, but Grandpa, Dad and I are going to get her a laptop tomorrow. She's very smart but not really computer literate. I'm still wondering what she ought to get - a Dell? A Toshiba? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Didn't see this, hope it's not too late...but get an Apple. Perfect for older not-so-computer-literate folks. Easy to use, doesn't break.

I thought of that, but it's expensive and I don't know if Grandpa will want to spring for it. I'll have to ask him.

They're really quite close in price to comparably equipped Dells. Add in how much easier they are to use and the software they come with, and I think they're a compelling deal.

We didn't end up getting a laptop for Grandma after all - I think this is just a notion my dad and my Grandpa have that they're never going to act on. Also, Dad got all tetchy and said that it wouldn't be a good idea to get Grandma a computer that nobody else could help her use (even though I explained to him, repeatedly, that an Apple's pretty easy to use and not completely different from a PC). So I don't know what's going to happen on that front.

Yeah, I'd suggest a MacBook, or maybe a MacBook.
