I've been a little off for the past couple of days. Yesterday I started getting a sore throat, which I still have. It might be a cold, but Dad says it could be an allergy to pollen: he has trouble with that around this time of year too. Since I've never had any allergies before, I'm not sure what to think, and between a cold and allergies I don't know which is worse. Maybe it is allergies - I've been having coughing fits now and then for the past month. It doesn't seem too serious, though.

Work was also a bit frustrating. Sarah took some phone messages for me from museum people I'd called earlier, and I still haven't been able to reach one of them. She also gave me a portfolio of Edward Beale's letters, but I can't read the handwriting. On the bright side, the letters reminded me that we have lots of material in the Learning Center that I can look at (I'd forgotten about it), so I'm taking some time to look over it now. I'll still have to go to the LOC to look at some of the Beale papers from Decatur House (getting access to those requires a lot of paperwork, which I got out of the way yesterday evening so I won't have trouble when I get there this afternoon). I think I'll organize my notes on Judah P. Benjamin this morning.

I found out that we can't borrow any of Livingston's papers from Princeton, because they're some of the most oft-consulted materials in the manuscript library. We'll have to order photoduplications, which are expensive, but they'll do.

Since the car was available yesterday afternoon, I was able to drive home from the Metro. I had to parallel-park by a meter on the street nearby because the new parking garage, which was supposed to be open, is in fact not opening for a few more days (which caused another problem today, because there were no open parking meters this time and I had to drive into D.C. Luckily Dad and I commute together and he knew a good place to park). I stopped at the little health club on the way home for a circuit-training workout that I will be doing three times a week until I get back to school. It involves going around a room, spending 30 seconds at a given station (cardio or muscle workout), until the timed recording says to move on to the next one. You have to go around three times, and it takes about thirty minutes. It's a good routine for a person with a short attention span (like myself). Luckily, since I've been doing DDR for several months now, I had the stamina to manage it and didn't get too exhausted.

Dad finally ordered my laptop yesterday. I should have it in less than two weeks. Hooray!
