So I've decided to start at a new gym. I've been going to Curves for the past year or so, but they're all about cardio-focused circuit training with a little muscle work, and I don't find it challenging any more. If I want to get in shape and lose weight I need something more intense. So I signed up for a seven-day temporary membership at Sweat, which is the only other gym close to me.
Turns out it's pretty good. Not only do they have a wide array of cardio and weight machines (and the cardio machines, by which I mean the treadmills and bikes and such, have mini-TV screens in them), but they have classes you can take for free if you're a member. Once I've joined for real I can get a personal trainer to help me make up a workout routine. Right now I'm just sort of fooling around on whatever machine seems interesting. That approach probably isn't working too well.
They'll honor the last month of my Curves membership, but their membership fees are twice as expensive. Mom has been paying my fees, depending on whether I lose weight in a given month. If I don't I have to pay myself. I worked out a deal with her (though it has yet to take effect) so that I will only have to pay half of the monthly fee if I don't meet my end of the deal. I actually still have to figure whether I will be paying this on my own credit card, as before, or on the card that's connected to my dad's account, which I think would be easier.
Oh, I also got to do my Halloween outing.
tempus_aeterna and
drakonous did not end up going on their trip when planned, so
tempus_aeterna and I went out in costume and did a very short pub crawl (only two pubs). I was a little nervous at the prospect of going out all dressed up, but I shouldn't have been. There were a lot of other people my age or older who were in costume and I fit right in.
