Not such good news

My mother called last night and said that my great-aunt Norma - my maternal grandmother's sister - was in the hospital and "basically on her deathbed." I called Granny who alternated between weeping and sounding resigned as she told me that Norma was comatose and the doctors had taken her off her medicine. They expected her to die in a few hours. I haven't heard anything since then, but she is probably dead now.
To tell the truth, we've all been expecting this. Norma's been falling apart physically and mentally for the past couple of years, and she had lymphoma (although it was not aggressive) for longer than that. It's been hard on Granny, though, who has been taking care of her. She's also got her husband and her other daughter to worry about (Grumpy has heart problems and is going senile: my mother's sister is, to put it bluntly, nuts).
We're going to visit her over Thanksgiving. It will be nice to see her but, with all the other stuff going on, I'm sort of anxious about it as well.
