Where have I been?

I just want to give everyone a quick update of the last few days. I was expecting my friend Marjorie to come visit last Friday, but her plane was cancelled due to bad weather. However, since I had already arranged for
nightengalesknd to join us, I just went to dinner with her. We had some lovely Peking duck in Chinatown. Marjorie will be flying in this Thursday if all goes well, and staying over. She has some job interviews here in Philly and in New York with firms that do business in China.
On Saturday I took the train home so I could attend a small con with my brother Benjamin, who found out about it through his Kingdom of Lothing friends. It was pretty unstructured, except for a couple of Star Wars larps and some gaming tournaments. Benjamin participated in both the Saturday and Sunday larps. I was in the Sunday Larp, playing the part of Jan Ors, an Imperial intelligence agent who was actually spying for the Rebellion. Those of you who are familliar with the extended Star Wars canon, or just the game Dark Forces, will recognize the name.
I also watched a lot of The Adventures of Brisco County Jr., a show I enjoyed during my childhood years (it ran 1993-1994). Unlike a lot of childhood things I have revisited recently, it is about as good as I remember. I also played Munchkin for the first time - Super Munchkin, to be exact. I will have to get a set of Munchkin cards and cajole some local friends into playing with me.
Today's news: it is raining way too much. I took Roo to the vet for a regular checkup, and also because she has a sore on her back between her shoulderblades, where I apply her topical flea medicine. The sore is infected, although not with anything too serious. I got some antibiotics to give her until it clears up. The vet and I still don't know what caused the sore in the first place - it may have been an allergic reaction to the flea medicine.
I also dropped a line to the college professor whose French courses I attended in my freshman and sophomore years of college. Part of her teaching strategy involved communicating with us (in class, in e-mails, on Blackboard) almost exclusively in French. I thought she would appreciate getting an e-mail from me in French. I found that I still remembered a decent amount of what I'd learned in her class, although I still needed some help from online tools. I laboriously wrote out the letter and sent it. In her reply - in French, of course - she said that yes, she could understand it clearly, although there were a few grammatical irregularities.
Since she was one of my favorite professors and this time of year always makes me pine for my Bryn Mawr days, I'm going to see if I can meet with her sometime soon, although I will have to brush up on my French first.
