Fortunately, in spite of the Red Alert threat level, knitting needles are still allowed in carry-on luggage. I checked. This is good because I'm going to California soon and four hours without knitting will send me into withdrawal.

Oh, I also found the latest version of fractint, an old but vey entertaining program that generates and displays fractals. My personal favorite is the Ifs fern. Of course the famous Mandelbrot is here too.

Okay, I am happy you get to have your needles, but how messed up is it that they won't let you bring *water*, but they let you bring pointed metal sticks on board?

Well, the sticks I'm planning to bring are actually plastic. But since I may finish the project while I am in California, I figure I should have another one planned, and that may involve metal needles. Right now I'm thinking about another pair of socks, because it would be a small project.

You can't fly on trans-Atlantic flights with knitting needles or water or hair gel or most kinds of hairspray.
You are allowed both water and hairspray in the US. (But still not hairspray.)

And double-check too...based on what I saw on WPVI's website, the list of prohibited items has been changing by the day....
