I plowed through a lot of classics, and I still try to do that. (The Great Gatsby is STILL on my to-read pile, damnit.) Along the way, DO read The Picture of Dorian Grey, Frankenstein, and Lolita. I suggest, however, that you get an annotated copy of Lolita. It's sophisticated shit, and there are subtleties that I really would have lost out on if I hadn't had an annotated copy. Scary dude for a non-native-speaking writer of English literature. O.O I wish I could write half that well in English.

Don't forget African/African-American literature while you're at it. I have a book called Sacred Fire: The QBR 100 Essential Black Books. It lists, well, 100 essential books written by black authors. Someday, I intend to plow through a significant portion of titles listed therein. (Although many are non-fiction.)

Speaking of non-fiction, right now I'm reading Rights of Man by Thomas Paine. Ohhhhhh... What a writer! What a radical! :) Thanks to Barnes and Noble for making so many of the classics easily purchasable by poor schlubs like me.

Couple more things:

#1: What the fuck IS Big O about?!?!?!? Nobody has ever been able to explain it to me, and with as many episodes as I've seen? You'd think I'd have some kind of idea. The only thing I know for sure is that, "PEOPLE ARE NOT RULED BY THEIR MEMORIES!!" ... It's worse than my blank incomprehension at Furi Kuri. I had to have that one explained to me--and I confess that it still doesn't make any kind of logical sense... although maybe it's not supposed to.

#2: By contrast, a series that's mind-bending without being mindless is Paranoia Agent. Seen it yet? If not, please do.

#3: I'm still in love with Samurai Champloo. Episode 11 is still my very favorite, but #13 and especially #14 are now way up high on the list as well. #14 sorta does for Mugen what #11 does for Jin. (I'm eagerly awaiting the airing of #15.)

#4: I'm still miserably in love with Roo. I'm glad she had a nice feast, and your dad's insistance on giving her the choice sweetmeats is pretty hilarious. Just the same, Pooka (because she is the CUTE one) eats people food from my plate whenever I have a meal. I try to feed her just the meat parts, 'cause that's good and healthy for her. But she's become an absolute tyrant... just such a CUTE tyrant that it's impossible to be angry at her. On the bright side, the other cats don't seem too upset about the whole thing, because they don't like to eat people food. Except for Lucy's undying devotion to bacon and Tycho's Thing about ham. When those foods are involved, get the hell out of the way or be prepared to be trampled.

#5: Watched the remake of Appleseed last night. Top notch animation. Top notch.

I hate it that I can't knit and watch anime at the same time. :( Although I do sneak in some knitting while watching Inuyasha... Or shows like CSI where strict attention to visuals isn't always necessary.
