There was a power outage at work some time last night. My office computer, which was on standby at the time, had apparently been having some hard drive issues already (the drive tended to "rev" for no reason, and make a lot of noise): it was also plugged into a somewhat unreliable wall outlet, not a surge protector. Yeah, you can guess where this is going.
My supervisor checked the computer and said that my hard drive appears to have been wiped. Fortunately I back up my work on the server every evening (which we are all supposed to do at my office), so I was able to put it on Tomato and work on it there. The problem is, I do not have TextPad on Tomato. I have BBedit, which is pretty good, but it does not have TextPad's clip library - and the work I'm doing right now involves putting in a lot of Unicode entities, so now I have to cut and paste them from an entity chart. Ick.
My boss is going to pick up a new hard drive for my work computer. I wonder if I can get a surge protector for it too. All the software will have to be reinstalled. As I said, though, the important work files and documentation are all on the server, so it's just an annoyance, not a disaster.
Oh, another thing - I am going to be interviewed on WHYY's Radio Times tomorrow between 11AM and 12PM. It's about the class I attended for young adults with Asperger's and ADHD. If you're interested, please listen.
