Colossal!

As I mentioned in my previous entry, I picked up Shadow of the Colossus while I was visiting my friend in New Jersey. So far I've beaten four Colossi, and I understand why [livejournal.com profile] ironroot likes it so much. A game that consists of sixteen boss battles and traveling between them - with your horse, sword and bow being the only items you'll ever get - may not sound all that interesting, but it's absolutely captivating. I can't really explain it, especially without spoiling the experience for future players, but seriously...this is awesome.

The only problem is that whoever wrote the subtitles (all the voiceovers are done in what seems to be a fantasy language) has a less-than-perfect grasp of English, especially the archaic English (with thee, thou, thy, etc) they're trying to use. "If thou do as we askest," for instance, is not correct. It should be "Should thou perform the task we ask of thee."1 But since there is very little dialog in the game, this isn't a deal-breaker.

I hope I'll be able to beat all the Colossi before I go to New York on Monday, because while I can bring the game and my memory card with me and use my brother's PS2 when I go to Maryland, I don't want to risk spoiling the game for him or anyone else. Although he probably wouldn't appreciate it. :P

1Technically the first word should be "an," which means "if," but almost nobody would get that.
