Well, it looks like the fix is in - the Democrats have taken the House by storm, netting a good deal more than what they needed for a majority. The Senate is still kind of up in the air, and it doesn't seem like the Dems are going to get all the seats they need. But they will get a few, among them the one for Pennsylvania. That's right, folks, Santorum is out and Casey is in. Ding, dong, the Rick is dead.

I know a lot of more liberal people are ambivalent about Casey, since he is pro-life and not big into gun control.1 People in the Philadelphians Against Santorum group - for whom I have been doing volunteer work these past few months - joked that next we might be trying to get Casey out, never mind that we officially endorsed him. But I agree with most of Casey's positions, and I think moderate Dems (moderate anythings, really) are what we need right now, not crazy polarized leftists who will be too busy bashing the opposition party to get anything done.

I've actually been involved in helping to get out the vote in Philly this election season, knocking on doors in my neighborhood, giving out flyers, and making calls. Last night I canvassed around Society Hill: for those of you who don't live in Philly, that's the richest neighborhood in the city, with a lot of houses from the Colonial or Federal (early 19th century) period. I was going around with a list of young and infrequent voters, checking to see if they had cast their ballots, or reminding them to do so if they hadn't. All the people I spoke to had voted already, and I kind of got to feeling that I was wasting my time. Most everyone in an affluent neighborhood like that votes.

But apparently our group did make a splash: when I went to check at the Ward 5-19 polling place, the election monitors told me that they'd gotten 700 votes cast during the day, about three times what they usually get in a midterm election. And, they said, many of the voters were pretty fired up and eager to kick Santorum out. Kewl.

In other, non-election news, I beat God of War - on easy mode, though. I think I will try a higher difficulty next time. If I beat the hardest difficulty, God Mode, I can get all the unlockable features. Right now I am trying to complete the Challenge of the Gods feature, unlocked by beating the game, which itself unlocks new skins for the hero. So far I've beat five out of ten challenges.

The next game I have is the original Ratchet and Clank, but I'm going to hold off on that, I think. I want to replay Psychonauts and collect all the powerups, and perhaps take another crack at God of War on a higher difficulty level.

1To clarify, he says that we don't really need more gun control laws, we need better enforcement of existing laws to prevent the illegal sale of handguns. On the abortion issue, he admits to being pro-life but doesn't give the impression that he'll push hard for an abortion ban. He also strongly advocates state and federal funding for family planning and sex ed, as well as an expansion of Head Start programs and medical insurance for children. I think it's a very sensible position.
