Experiments in Mad Culinary Science

Whew. I spent this evening cooking up a batch of squash for the oneg tomorrow at Leyv Ha'ir (Heart of the City), the Reconstructionist congregation I recently started going to. Yeah, I didn't mention it, but I visited for the first time last week. It's very small and pretty much everyone is older than I am, but it's informal and lay-led and everyone was very glad to see me there. So, anyway, I bought two big butternut squashes at the Italian Market and I cooked them in the oven and then scraped out the meat (or squeezed it out with my fingers), then mixed it up with some pumpkin pie spice and squished it as best I could. Since I didn't really steam it, and I don't know how to get it really smooth, it's got some lumpy bits and it does not look pretty. But it will at least be decent - I know because I've eaten my own roast butternut squash on multiple occasions and it tastes fine. I'm hoping that with the addition of the spice, and some chilling in the fridge, it will taste a little better than decent. Time will tell.

She says she can't remember where she ganked it from, and we don't have any mutual LJ friends - I checked. She did not have it credited to the creator so I asked her to do so. I do remember giving someone else permission to gank the icon with credit, but I don't remember who. I guess it's gotten around since then.
