The combination of starting up a new Mage game with [livejournal.com profile] tempus_aeterna as GM, getting Sorcerer's Crusade books for my birthday (thankyouthankyouthankyou [livejournal.com profile] drakonous!) and watching more of Batman: The Animated Series has made me come up with a game idea. Sort of.

I think a good one- or few-shot concept would be a competition taking place in the Sons of Ether's Gernsback Continuum (here's the William Gibson story from which they got the idea). The players would be advanced students in the Sons of Ether or Virtual Adepts who wished to become Adventurers. They would be the finalists in a big tournament that, should they win, will culminate in the prize of a powerful Talisman (a Zero Point Energy generator, a Temporal Bubble Belt, etc.) and the opportunity to train with the most famous Adventuring Sons of Ether. This means they would be competing, in teams or on an individual basis. At least at first.

The rules regarding vulgar and coincidental effects would be a little wanky because this is, after all, a Mage shard realm. I suppose everyone could use what would normally be considered vulgar effects, as long as they were within the proper pulp sci-fi milieu. This means that giant dirigibles, killer robots, stun rays or summoning a horde of corporeal spirits that look like little green men from Mars would be perfectly acceptable.

And the final touch: all contestants would be equipped with Dick Tracy watches in order to stay in contact with their teammates and/or the referee and judge of the contest.
