I took Roo to the vet this morning - not my regular vet, who is about half a mile from me, but halfway across the city to a vet that honors special certificates for low-cost neutering. Yes, Roo is getting spayed today. She was very well-behaved on the walk and subway ride over. On the way back, she will probably be zonked from the anaesthetic.

Various people I've talked to who have their own cat say that getting them neutered is always scary, especially since they're a total wreck afterwards - but they always recover quickly. I'm nervous because I don't know what state Roo will be in this evening when I bring her home.

If for some reason you want to send her get-well messages, tell me and I will pass them on.

I picked Roo up from the vet about an hour ago. They said she was a little angry after she woke up, but fortunately she does not seem to be angry at me. She is, however, very woozy - now that I've brought her home, she's sort of stumbling around the apartment, sniffing at things like she's not quite familiar with them or as if she wants to make sure everything is pretty much the same as it was when she left. Mostly, she seems very sleepy and confused, and isn't rocketing around the way she usually does, but that's to be expected (although it's still a little worrying).

The vet gave me some doses of pain medication to give her for the next couple of days, so I guess she won't be back to her old self for a while. But at least the operation went okay, and now it's done with.
