Welcome to the World, Mnemone!
Jan. 3rd, 2006 11:36 amI used my Hanukah money to buy a blank hard drive and an external enclosure.[1] At first I couldn't get it to work, but then Steve, the computer guy at Scribe, helped me figure out that I had to format it before any computer would recognize it as a usable drive. I decided to christen in Mnemone, after the Greek muse of memory.[2] It's got quite a lot of memory, too - 80GB worth. I could back up my entire primary hard drive and more.
But I'm actually going to put my music, documents and anime on it. It's a USB drive so the transfer rate won't be that fast, but I don't need it to be.
Now I have to go grocery shopping. In the drizzly rain. Ick.
[1] I already had one for a laptop hard drive, but the prices for blank laptop HDs have gone way up lately and it was actually cheaper for me to get the memory I wanted on a desktop drive.
[2]My laptop, by the way, is called Tiamat, not so much after the Babylonian goddess as the planet in Joan D. Vinge's book The Snow Queen. I'm just not in the habit of calling my computer by its pet name the way some people do.
