Well, my brother did make it over this weekend. We had lots of fun, in spite of the rain and my poor planning. We went out to my favorite restaurants - the 4th street deli, Aoi and Joy Tsin Lau (a dim sum place) respectively. I will have to watch what I eat this week to make up for it. Oof. We visited the Italian Market, South Street and Chinatown. On Friday (not trying to keep in chronological order here) we saw a movie called The 40-Year-Old-Virgin, which was surprisingly good for something that seems constructed for the most part out of loosely connected Saturday Night Live skits, and baudy ones at that. Although the ending was a bit dumb.

Daniel enjoyed himself, which made me happy. I used to beat up on him a lot when we were kids, but now we get along very well and I have a lot of respect for him. And he can tolerate me, which helps.

Next weekend I'm going home, although he won't be there because Mom and Dad will be taking him to college. Benjamin will be there and so will Fiola, the new nanny. Until then, I have to work on a project that uses XML and MathML. I'm sort of nervous about that - the MathML part especially, since that's fairly complicated. But the project has its own XML documentation and the people who gave it to us thoughtfully provided samples of another work, which will help more than anything else. Once I learn this (and I will, no matter how nervous I am about it: I learned regular expressions pretty quickly, after all), I will be one of the few people in the office who knows it. My boss knows how to use it but only learned it recently, and none of the other folks can do it. It's a good sign that they want me to learn XML, first because it means they like the idea of keeping me long-term and second because it may lead to a promotion down the line. If I'm sort of the office specialist in XML, I'll be that much more valuable. I just have to learn it first, and my boss has always been good about being patient and answering my questions.

I'm also going to get a Pennsylvania driver's license this week. I may have to apply for a new one instead of just swapping my old one because I've passed the 60-day grace period, but I can say I've been sort of shuttling back and forth between here and Maryland. Also, I don't have a car and haven't driven one since I arrived, so it will be a lot of unnecessary trouble for all concerned to make me get a new license.
