A lot of stuff has been going on this week that I've been too lazy to write about. First, I turned in my thesis and finished my last final last week (yay!). I just got back my thesis grade and I got a high enough score for honors! I'm quite happy about this. I called my dad, my grandparents, and even my brother Daniel to spread the news.
I went to Six Flags on Sunday with a bunch of students, but mostly hung around my friend Laura and her buddy Brenda. There was not as much good junk food as I was hoping for (and since I was tagging along with my friends, I didn't get much opportunity to buy any of it, which is probably a good thing). There were lots of roller coasters. The Superman one, which actually puts you in a horizontal position, was pretty cool, and actually the least gut-wrenching. Before the actual coaster-y bit we went on Six Flags' Safari trail. It was kind of long and got boring after a while. But the giraffes were amusing. They came out into the road, probably hoping for food. And if you opened your window and got their attention (technically not allowed, but there were people on our bus and in other cars who did this anyway), they would try and nuzzle you, maybe even stick their heads in the window!
The other notable thing I did, which was actually just a couple of hours ago, was go to a little party at Katherine's house. Katherine was my favorite professor here, but she has been effectively politicked out of her job (I am not going into details here). It was dumb of the department to let her go, because all her students love her. She also revealed to me the dirty secrets of the dig crew I worked on with her a couple of summers ago. There was one woman there who I thought was a jerk, but I didn't realize it was such a hotbed of intrigue and licentousness. Of course, I tend not to notice things like that, which may help me avoid them in the end.
As Londo once said to Vir, "You have walked through the corridors of power and somehow remained untouched. I can only assume it is because you have not been paying attention!"
I also got to see Katherine's much-reputed bird, Kiwi. Kiwi was very cute and lively but did not want me to touch her, so I didn't. When Katherine lets that bird out of her cage she is very careful to watch it, and frets over it like a mother would with a toddler.
I still have to ring the bell in Taylor Hall to announce my done-ness. I also have an exit interview tomorrow, so I guess I'd better go to bed at a reasonable hour.
Which I haven't been doing lately. Damn
scifantasy and his Ur-Quan Masters. I will not provide the link because I do not wish to be responsible for spreading the addiction.
