Here's a tale for ya!
Dec. 4th, 2004 03:06 pmI sent off my friend Marjorie's holiday present, along with a copy of my most recent short story. It took a long time for her mail to reach me from China, but she says that things get delivered to China more quickly than from it. Outside the post office there were some PAC activists soliciting donations and giving out various bits of literature on the Bush administration's dirty laundry. Since I would like to see Bush and Cheney out of the White House myself, I gave them five dollars (which was all I could really afford, but anything helps) and got one of their little books, which I may hand over to the BMC Democrats. I also told the activists about TrueMajority, an online activist group whose mailing list I am on (it's run by Ben Cohen, formerly of Ben & Jerry's. Some of you might want to check it out). Maybe PAC is already working with them: if not, I hope they get together some time.
On to the Mage game. The new Wiki that
drakonous set up was really helpful in that it allowed us to get our food order out early. Of course, we still didn't start the game early, but I got to eat sooner, which was good because I hadn't eaten much all day.
Tara and Ari stopped by, and even though they weren't playing with us, they were nice to have around. I gave out candy canes as holiday cheer presents since I don't think we're going to be meeting again before winter break. PJ wasn't around so
drakonous took the opportunity to explain to us how vampires worked in his World of Darkness (had PJ been there it would have devolved into a rules-lawyering argument). PJ's absence also forced us to fool around with the timeline a bit, but we can resolve that.
It was a pretty good game. I got to use my avatar to do something and I also arrived after school on a Chinese dragon, just to spice things up. It was quite fun.
I stayed overnight so I could visit Rodeph Shalom this morning. I ended up going earlier than I needed to for the Torah service, but I was just in time for the Torah study session, which I decided to attend. I'm glad I did, since I met someone who gave me a few tips on possible sources and would make a good interviewee. I also spoke to the senior rabbi and met up with the woman who'd shown me around the place a few weeks ago. It's good to network when you're doing a thesis.
I also enjoyed the Torah discussion on the Joseph story and made a few contributions myself, which I think won me some brownie points with the group.
I feel both icky and sleepy, so I'm going to take a shower and then probably a nap. Sometime today I have to work on my papers a bit more and I really should work on my fanfic...
