Broadcasting to you live from Bryn Mawr College! It's good to be back, after a long drive in Mom's Subaru with my mini-fridge and suitcase bungee-corded to the roof. I was afraid they'd fall off or make the car tip over or something. Dad and I finally got here. Poor Dad brought most of the stuff upstairs to my room (same room as last year) while I got my keys, put money in my express account and picked up my mail. I have not gotten the old Doublestar plays yet, but I got a letter telling me that I have to get eight P.E. credits to graduate and I only have seven. Oh joy. Well, I was planning to keep up regular exercise this semester anyway, and I've done the swim test, so it shouldn't be a big problem. I finished unpacking about a half hour ago, as of this writing. I've said hello to the girls living in the double next to me, I've talked to Martine and I met Katherine, the professor who got me interested in anthropology, while Dad and I were shopping. I forgot to tell her that I won the GRE. I'll have to do that when I see her at the Senior Conference on Monday. Between now and then I am going to play some Invisible War, see
scifantasy when he gets into Philly and help him unpack. I don't know if there will be a High Table brunch tomorrow. If there is, I'll be doing that too.
Okay, now here is the List of Things I Forgot (drumroll please):
Things I forgot and went back for:
- The little carpet for my room
- My blankets, which we caught when we went back for the carpet
Things I forgot and had to buy:
- Sponges
- A surge protector
- Tissues
Things I forgot and have yet to obtain:
- Earplugs (I can survive one night without them)
- An ethernet cable (which I can bum off
scifantasy. I'll need it to update my web page.
- Something to hang my posters with. The double-sided tape doesn't work.
- A fan.
Things I should replace:
- My telephone, which has a cordless headset that should be charging but isn't. I want to smash the damn thing with a sledgehammer. I also want to smash the scale Mom made me bring along, but she's right, I'll probably need it.
I didn't put blankets on the bed because it's hot and there's no air conditioner in here. I can't leave the windows open because I'll itch tomorrow if I do. It doesn't make much difference unless I'm close to them, anyway.
One of my big goals for this semester - other than, y'know, doing my thesis and finding a job - is hosting a Pride and Prejudice tea. Once I figure out how to schedule it, Martine, who is a Pride and Prejudice fan, can help me post flyers and bring stuff from the store. This is going to be a tea with real tea, probably bergamot something-or-other, with sugar and milk. We'll be serving it in styrofoam cups, but it's still real tea. I also hope to write an original short story for this year's Nimbus literary magazine (and I am definitely going to be on the editing staff again), though that's not a major issue for me. I'm wondering if I can manage to write a fanfic, and whether it should be for Batman Beyond or Samurai Jack.
I need to get my priorities straight, don't I?
