Yesterday Valerie came over to show me the first two Evil Dead movies. The first one probably set up the cabin-in-the-woods horror movie archetype. It was all right, but the second one was actually quite funny. Still, I don't understand why Valerie likes those movies so much. The visit was worthwhile, though, since I got her to read the first to Ruse anthologies (actually, she borrowed the second) while I read the issues of 1602, Neil Gaiman's Marvelverse miniseries. She insisted that whenever I read lines from Ruse or 1602 that I should do it with the proper accent.

I also watched Pride and Prejudice (the A&E) version over the last two days, partly because I really like it and also because I thought it might help me develop the right state of mind for writing my fic. Which it did, sort of. Simon and Emma don't have audible voices in the comic books (of course) and the voiceovers they have in Comics on the Web are, I have been told, nothing less than abysmal. So for myself I imagined that Simon sounded like Mr. Darcy (Colin Firth) and Emma like Elizabeth Bennet (Jennifer Ehle). This is the first time I've watched Pride and Prejudice since reading Ruse, and I am more convinced than ever that those voices are appropriate for them.

This morning I finally sent out the graduation presents via the UPS store, which took a while since I had to enter all the addresses, get them in boxes and envelopes, etc. The employee who helped me was very patient and showed some ingenuity when I had to send a box of unusual dimensions - I had to put it in another box, the corners of which she slit with a boxcutter so as to make a better fit. I also went to the library to try to find a book on Stephen Decatur or the 1812 war, but I had no luck. Dad e-mailed me with a list of local bookstores I should look at, and the last-resort option of getting something from the Decatur House gift shop. I'll see about the bookstores, which I can go to tomorrow, but I'm not going all the way into D.C. just to get the damn book.

I got a bit more of my fic done, but I should do more work on it today - too much Starcraft. I also have to exercise, since I didn't this morning. I wish Mom hadn't taken away the PS2 - playing DDR on the hardwood floor of the family rooom is fine, but playing it on the carpet in my bedroom is annoying. Grr.
