I've been reading reviews for this game called Okami in which you play the goddess Amaterasu, in the form of a fox, and you have to paint things to get through the game and solve puzzles. I really want to play this but...it's for the PS2.

However, that led me to look at prices for PS2 systems, and I discovered that I can get a refurbished one at a local GameStop for just over a hundred bucks - a price that, while steep, is within my budget. I wouldn't even have to dig into my savings for that. A more concerted search might turn up cheaper alternatives, although I doubt I could find anything much better.1

Just because I can, though, doesn't mean I should. Not only is it a lot of money to drop - and that's not counting the cost of buying games to go with it - but it may not be a good idea. I already play around on my computer too much and it cuts into time I should spend on more constructive activities that I enjoy, like reading, knitting and writing fanfic. Do I want to get something that can very easily worsen that problem?

I must also confess that in the past (middle and high school) I had a serious computer addiction and would not have done essential things like bathing, eating, homework, etc. had my mother not kept me in line. Of course, I used to shun those things for books. I did have some other reasons for shutting myself off that way. Eventually, I got over it. But I live in constant fear of backsliding.2

Anyway, I couldn't buy this now, at least not if I don't want to take the money out of my savings (to be put back in later). I'd have to wait for my next paycheck. That's plenty of time to consider.

EDIT: Oh yeah. There's also the fact that I'm getting a new laptop in a couple of months. Just how many shiny electronic things do I need, anyway?

1My little brother Benjamin has offered to sell me his PS2 when he gets a PS3. He is confident that Mom and Dad will let him get one, but I don't think it's going to happen. He got the PS2 for doing his homework and maintaining good grades, and right now he is having a lot of trouble with his high school work. Besides, the one he has is an old model, and I can get one of the newer ones.

2This is why I tend to show up for appointments way too early, or get very anxious about deadlines or other things that most people wouldn't think twice about. I used to be unbelievably disorganized and generally out of it, and in spite of how much I've changed, I tend to think of myself that way.
