Yayness!

Some of you know this already but most of you don't.

I got a job offer!

I'll be working at a multimedia publishing company in Philly called Scribe. It will be good experience for going into book publishing someday. I haven't quite accepted yet - I'm going to talk to the career office first about how to negotiate a salary (they offer $21,000 per year for this position, and I'm hoping I can get it a little higher, though I have no idea how I'm supposed to go about that). The thing is, one can actually live in Philly on that salary.

This is a big relief - not only do I actually know what to do after college now, I can live in Philly with many of my friends and visit Bryn Mawr easily. I'll have to start looking for apartments. I'm planning to use Craig's List for that. But if any of you folks know someone in Philly who is looking for a roommate, particularly if they live in a house, please do let me know.

For you, I recommend living between Market and Spruce (or so), between 10th and 40th. Those are the safest areas, and more suited to your personality and wants.
Anyway, congrats. I hope the next year in Philly is a happy one for you!

Housing in Philly

There are some affordable and fairly nice apartments around 3rd and Catherine Streets, and it's a much nicer, funkier and more lively area than West Philly (which is your other option for affordability.) There is a small apartment complex where I used to live, on Kauffman Street between 3rd and 4th, they might have something available.

By the way, I don't think we've met - I am a STWing geezer (class of '01.)

Oh, that's actually close to where I'll be working. Can you tell me the address of the complex, or give me contact info for the landlord or something?
