Yay for me!

I have accomplished two sort of momentous things in the past forty-eight hours, and both of them were very geeky, so I'm quite proud of myself. First, I managed to finish the last season of Babylon 5 (or the last but not best part of the story of the galaxy's last, best hope for peace). I also unlocked all the songs and special features on DDR. It's not the first time I've done it, but I had to do it again because the DDR save file on my brother's PS2 cartridge was corrupted and had to be deleted. I'm getting a lot better at DDR. I can make it through a lot of the songs on Standard mode now.

Dad and I are finalizing the laptop business. He wants me to see if I can find a store where they sell Dell laptops on retail, so I can see one up close before I buy it. I don't see what the big deal is - I know what the features are, because I looked over the specs and picked out the equipment I wanted, and I know how many ports it has. Dad said I should get a feel for the computer, but when I get it I just have to get used to it. Well, I'll take a look at some of the sample ones in stores if I can, but it seems a bit ridiculous to me.

I just checked my e-mail. Two days ago I posted something on [livejournal.com profile] mock_the_stupid. I barely said anything, just posted a link - and I have close to a hundred replies! The notifications are flooding into my BMC e-mail inbox. I feel so popular.

Now, what do I have to do today...well, besides checking on the whole laptop business, I should call Rachel since I'll be in New York soon and maybe I can see her. I should also write Marjorie a letter, and work on my fanfic. Since I'm done with Babylon 5 I should be able to do more things now, unless I want to go through the whole series looking for special features, which I will probably end up doing, because I'm such a geek.

More advice you didn't ask for: Dell doesn't sell through retail stores at all, just over the phone and online. We do have a limited number of kiosks in malls where you can go to play with one before you get, but there may or may not be one in your area. This page (http://www1.us.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/kiosk?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs) has a list of the locations.

*cough* When?

We're dropping off Daniel for camp, so I'll be in New York from the 17th to the 23rd at least. I also have to check something in the Princeton library for my internship, so I can definitely see you then. It'll just take a while to work out.

When I was shopping for a laptop, I found that looking at retail stores for samples was quite useful. Getting the opportunity to look at the screens and test out the keyboard, as well as a general impression of build quality, was quite useful to me. I was still deciding between brands at the time though, so it may not be as helpful to you as it was to me.

As for finding a Dell in a store...good luck. The Dell kiosks are few and far between, and they focus mainly on desktops.
