mock_the_stupid, but it was pretty dumb of me.
When I was trying to back up my palm pilot, I put it in its cradle and connected the USB cable to the computer. But it wouldn't register the palm when I was trying to sync it. I tried unplugging and replugging, uninstalling and reinstalling the software, everything I could think of, and it still didn't work. I gave up.
The next day, when I was cleaning the desk, I discovered that the cable I had been plugging in was for the printer, not the palm cradle. D'oh!
