Well, back to the drawing board...

I was trying to get music for my iPod through SoulSeek, and I got a fair amount, but it seems the program had a disagreement with my computer. It caused the laptop not to recognize its own hard drive a few times (which should have been a warning sign) and just now caused a blue screen problem (eek!) and apparently caused my laptop to have a near-death experience. It wouldn't start up a couple of times.

So I've uninstalled SoulSeek. I'll have to find some other way to get music, I guess.

Does anyone know of other programs that are good for this and won't cause such problems? (Other than LimeWire, which doesn't work on my computer.)

I'm willing to bet you overloaded your connection and pulled a corrupt file, but you were pulling so many files that you won't be able to pinpoint which one was bad.

On that note, we need to have a conversation about downloading etiquette...

Yes, you're probably right, and I was probably taking up way too much bandwidth. I'm not going to be using that program anymore, though.
