Making Vegetables Sexy

Because I have more than a few friends who are crazy leaf-eaters vegetarian or vegan, and would thus be interested:

This lady writes vegan cookbooks. Appalled by the state of vegan cooking (or lack thereof), Isa Chandra Moskowitz has boldly gone where no chef has gone before and written a few cookbooks. She's figured out ways to make tasty baked goods without resorting to eggs or milk, which I think is pretty impressive, even though I'm not of an herbivorous bent. Her stuff is also good for people with dairy allergies.

In other food-related news, I have made progress in my search for cruelty-free animal products (the best I can do since I'm not hardcore enough to go vegan). A young woman at my knitting circle, who is a member of Jews in the Woods, has confirmed my suspicion that certain kosher animal products are cruelty-free, but others are not: it depends on who certifies them. She says that she will ask some of her friends about which certifications guarantee a cruelty-free product and which ones don't.

It also occurs to me that I will have to tell my mother about my decision before I visit home (which I plan to do soon, to give her my old computer), and well in advance of Passover.
